Do you know who the first architect in the world is? I know you don’t know the answer. This is our problem. We have a rich tradition but know nothing about it. It’s time to go back to our epics. It is proven that nothing in this world is new. Everything was recorded in the huge book, the Mahabharata. Foreigners claim the patent on many inventions. But actually our ancient Acharyas deserve most of them.
is right. The first architect is an Indian and the first bridge was built here.

Who is the First Architect?

This is the question which now popped out from your mind, I know. The answer is Nala. He is the first architect. Nala was Vanara and the subject of Sugriva. Viswakarma (the architect of Devas) was his father and he was born when Viswakarma hugged his mother and had an ejaculation. It was his father who gave a boon to be the best builder in the world.
There is also another belief about the first architect. Some sources say that it was Nila (brother of Nala) who built the first bridge. But there is no doubt that one of the Vanara from Rama’s army built the very first and long bridge in the world.

Which was the First Long Bridge?

This is the next question you have, right? It is Rama Sethu or Rama’s Bridge (Nala Sethu) which connects India to Srilanka. Foreigners called it as Adam’s bridge.

Story behind Rama Sethu

There is a long story behind the construction of Rama Sethu. Sri Rama was asked to live in the forest for 14 years by Kaikeyi, another wife of his father. Her intention was to give the crown to his son, Bharatha. Anyway, Rama went to woods for living there along with his better half, Sita and brother, Lakshman. When they were in Dandakaranya, Ravana happened to see Sita, the beautiful woman on the earth. Then he kidnapped her and brought to Lanka in his Pushpak Viman.
Rama was helpless to find what happened to Sita. So they (Rama and Lakshman) sought the help of Sugriva, head of Vanaras (apes). Sugriva agreed to help. But in return, he requested a hand in killing Bali, his elder brother as well as the King of Vanara nation in order to restore his power and get back his wife. Rama did it and all of them went to find Sita. At this time, they got to know Sita was brought to Lanka (now Srilanka).
The real problem was the route. Everyone became confused at the midway seeing the vast sea in front of them. Rama tried to convince Varuna, the God of the sea. But he never gave way. They felt defeated. But there came Nala, the first architect in the world with a solution. He was confident enough to build a bridge across the sea. Hence everyone worked hard in the supervision of Nala and made the bridge a reality. They reached Lanka and killed Ravana using this bridge.
This bridge is also called as Nala Sethu. Because Rama introduced it to Sita by giving that name.

Did Rama Sethu Really Exist?

Yes. No doubt in that. There are many scientific facts proving this fact. NASA also said Rama Sethu is a real thing. Foreigners call this bridge with the name Adam’s bridge. It can be seen even today as a chain of shoals from Pamban Island (India) to Mannar Island (Srilanka).

Why Foreigners Call Rama’s Bridge as Adam’s Bridge?

Our Rama Sethu is widely called as Adam’s Bridge. Even NASA ( National Aeronautics and Space Administration) publicized our bridge in this name. Adham was a Muslim man. He was one of the first Muslim. He used this bridge to go to Srilanka and penanced there. Then the bridge got another name Adham’s bridge. When foreigners came and knew this name, they could relate the name Adham to Adam. Hence, they called it as Adam’s bridge.

Scientific Facts Proving the Existence of Rama Sethu

Archeological evidences show that Rama Sethu is real and not a fictional creation. The radiocarbon dating studies showed that the bridge has an age of about 7000 years and was built in around 5000 BC. When we try to find the birthday of Rama using the astronomical evidences given in Ramayana, it also gave a date around 5000 BC (see the video for details).
In Yudha Kanda, Valmiki clearly states about the construction of Rama Sethu. The ape-men (Vanaras) piled every type of trees at first inside the sea then the stones. On top, they built a flat surface. We can see this flat surface even today. As time went, sand accumulated over the structure and we can’t see the layers now. If we remove sand from a part, the layers will be clearly visible. But trees became a carbonized material like fossils.
The distances they covered every day is mentioned in the text. It was 100 yojanas in length and 10 yojanas in width which means the length to width ratio is 10:1. Today’s Adam’s bridge has a length of 35 km and the width 3.5 km. Guess what? It has also 10:1 ratio!!
Now the bridge is about 2 meters below the water. At the time of creation, it was about 1 meter above sea level. It shows the water level has been risen up to 3 meters. According to oceanography reports, there is a 9 feet rise in sea level due to polar ice melting and global warming during the past 7000 years. 3 feet= 9 meters which also shows the bridge was built before 7000 years, the time when Rama had lived.
What do You Think?
Now, what do you say? Rama Sethu is the first scientific long bridge in the world. It’s time to be proud of our rich tradition. We are not behind any country. According to the facts given in the Ramayana, we can assure that the bridge was built by Rama’s Army (Vanaras).
